Title: Medical Committee: letter of complaint from House Physicians

Description: Copy of letter from J [S] Collier and Edwin Bramwell, House Physicians, to the Medical Committee, bringing to their attention 'certain serious difficulties constantly arising out of [their] work . . . with the view that some alteration may be made in the working of the Hospital to obviate the occurrences of these difficulties'. The letter goes on to list concerns about massage, electrical treatment and treatment of bladders on tbe male side of the Hospital, because of insuficient attendants; the insuffficiency of linen in the male wards; the insufficiency of patients' diets, especially in Princess Christian ward, which resulted in patients hoarding food in their lockers, against Hospital rules; and the fact that the the food supplied to the House Physicians was of 'the worst quality and frequently unfit for human food'.

Date: 16 Jan 1900 Level: Series Admin history: Letter considered at the Medical Committee, 20 February 1900, and a subcommittee appointed to investigate the statements made, and report back to the Committee. Most of the complaints contained in this letter found their way into the report by members of the medical staff to the Governors, May 1900.
